How to create and sell bundles

Overview

With e-commerce enabled on your platform, you can sell courses and paths. The platform also allows you to combine multiple courses, paths, and/or digital media and sell them as a bundle.  This article will show you how to create, configure, and sell bundles.

Creating bundles

To create a bundle:
  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click E-commerce from the fly-out menu.
    1. If E-commerce is not available, it is not enabled on your platform. To learn how to enable e-commerce on your platform, visit the E-commerce article.
  3. Click Bundles from the Items table.
    1. If you have already created bundles, they will display.
  4. Click Add.

  1. Enter a name for the bundle.
  2. Click Save.

The bundle has been created. In the screenshot below, the name of the bundle is Beginner pack. To add courses or digital media to the bundle:

  1. Click Add item.

  1. Select courses, paths, and/or digital media from the list to add to the bundle.
    1. You can use filter by item name and by Course or Digital media type.
      1. Note that Paths will display under the Course filter.
    2. When you are finished selecting items, click Submit

The selected items are now a part of the bundle.

  1. Click Add item to add additional items.
  2. Select an item and click Delete to remove an item from the bunde.
By default, the created bundle is not published in the catalog. To publish the bundle:
  1. Click publish in the Admin widget in the right panel.

Configuring the bundle

To configure a bundle:
  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click E-commerce from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click Bundles from the Items table.
  4. Select a bundle.
  5. Click Admin from the bundle navigation menu.
  6. Click Basics.

Basics tab

The Basics tab allows you to set the catalog descriptions and image for the bundle, and associate it with an organization.
  1. To add the catalog descriptions, click Edit in the Overview section.
  2. To change the catalog picture, click Change Picture in the Overview section. 
By default, the bundle is associated with the default organization. If you want to select a specific organization for the bundle:
  1. Click Edit in the Settings section.
  2. Select the organization you want the bundle to be visible to.
    1. Note that you can only select one organization.
  3. Click Save

Catalog tab

To configure the bundle information shown in the catalog:
  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click E-commerce from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click Bundles from the Items table.
  4. Select a bundle.
  5. Click Admin from the bundle navigation menu.
  6. Click the Catalog tab.
The first section in the Catalog tab allows you to configure the following settings:
  1. Publish?: This checkbox publishes the bundle to the catalog. If the setting is unchecked, the bundle will be unpublished.
  2. Display content option instead of allowing purchase/enrollment?: This setting allows you to set up contact information for the bundle instead of a price. A Contact button will display for the bundle in the catalog in place of the Purchase button for users. 
  3. Include short description?: When checked, the short description for the bundle is shown in the catalog.
  4. Include long description?: When checked, the long description for the bundle is shown in the catalog.
  5. Include table of contents?: When checked, all of the included items for the bundle are shown in the catalog.
  6. Featured item?: When checked, the bundle will be shown as a featured item in the right panel of the catalog.

The Catalog tab also includes the following sections:
  1. Categories: The Categories section lists the catalog categories the bundle will be displayed in.
    1. Click Edit categories to remove existing categories.
    2. Click Add categories to add the bundle to additional categories.
  2. Tile color: The Tile color section allows you to add a color to the left side of the tile in the catalog.
    1. Click the HEX color code to display a color picker. 
      1. Select a color, or enter a HEX code to set a color for the left side of the catalog tile.
  3. Visibility: The Visibility section allows you to add filters to the bundle to limit which users can view it in the catalog.
    1. Click Add to add a visibility filter.
  4. SEO: The SEO section lets you add a meta description and keywords to your bundle to improve its visibility in search results.
    1. Click Add to add a meta description and keywords to the bundle.

E-commerce tab

To configure pricing information for the bundle:
  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click E-commerce from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click Bundles from the Items table.
  4. Select a bundle.
  5. Click Admin from the bundle navigation menu.
  6. Click the E-commerce tab.

The E-commerce tab allows you to set the price for the bundle. By default, newly created bundles do not have a price. To add a price:

  1. Click Edit Default Price.
  2. Set a price for the bundle in the pop-up.
  3. Click Save.

The platform allows you to customize bundle pricing to match different locations, organizations, groups, and more! You can set up multiple filtered prices, and the platform will automatically display the right price for each user based on their profile. To add a filtered price to a bundle:
  1. Click Add Filtered Price from the E-commerce tab.

  1. Enter the Price that will apply to users that meet the User Filter criteria.
  2. Select a Currency.
  3. Select a predefined filter or click the add add icon icon to add a new user filter.
    1. You can create a User Filter based on role, location, language, organization, tag, and more.

  4. Click Save.

The E-commerce tab for bundles also includes a Purchase actions section. The Purchase actions section allows you to add actions that are performed when the bundle is purchased, such as sending a notification or adding a user to a group. To add a Purchase action to a bundle:
  1. Click Add in the Purchase actions section.

The Add action pop-up displays. Depending on the set-up of your platform, the following actions are available across multiple tabs:
  1. Awards: Award badge, Award certificate, Award coupon, Award points.
  2. Integrations: Webhook, xAPI
    1. Additional integration options vary based on the set-up of your platform.
  3. Membership: Add to group, Enroll in course, Remove from group.
  4. Other: Add tag, Add to-do item, Archive, Deactivate, Remove tag, and Send custom notification
Select the action that should be performed when a user purchases the bundle. For example, if you want the user to be added to a group after purchasing the bundle:
  1. Click the Membership tab.
  2. Click Add to Group.
  3. Select the Group.
  4. Select a message option.
  5. Click Save.

The E-commerce tab for bundles also includes a Coupons section, where available coupons for the bundle display. To add a new coupon:

  1. Click Add in the Coupons section.

Please note the Coupons section does not appear if a price has not been set for the bundle.

  1. Enter a Name for the coupon.
  2. A Code is automatically provided, and can be edited.
    1. Users will enter the Code at checkout to apply the coupon.
  3. Select the Max uses for the coupon. This is the number of times the coupon can be used in total. 
    1. Note that Max uses defaults to Unlimited, meaning there is no limit to the number of times the coupon can be applied.
  4. Select Once per user if you would like to limit the use of a coupon to one time per user.
    1. Please note that a "single order" applies to the eligible items in a single order. If you select the "Once per user" option, the coupon is applied to eligible items in a single shopping cart checkout.
  5. Set the Discount amount for the coupon. This can be a fixed amount, such as $10.00, or a percentage, such as 10%.
  6. Select a Currency for the coupon.
  7. Select the Enable time restriction checkbox if you would like to set a start and end date for the coupon to be valid.
  8. After configuring your coupon, click Save.

Purchasing bundles

Bundles appear in the course catalog, much like courses, and indicate how many items are included in the bundle on the tile. To purchase a bundle, users:
  1. Access the Catalog.
  2. Click the bundle tile.

Bundles have two tabs: About and Items.
  1. Click the Items tab to see a list of items included in the bundle.
To purchase the bundle, users:
  1. Click the Purchase button.

The checkout page displays, and the checkout process is the same for both courses and bundles. 

  1. If users are purchasing from the visitor portal, they can create an account, or Log in if they already have an account.
  2. Users can pay using the the payment gateway set up for platform.

It is important to note that when users purchase a bundle, they are not automatically enrolled in all of its courses. After the payment is completed, users are returned to their portal, where they can access the purchased courses and enroll.
