Overview

The MS Immersive Reader offers a full-screen reading experience to increase the readability of content pages. It is designed to support learners with dyslexia and dysgraphia, but can support anyone who wants to make reading on their device easier. For more information about MS Immersive Reader, click here

Installing MS Immersive Reader

To use MS Immersive Reader, it must be installed on your site. Administrators can install MS Immersive Reader by:
  1. Clicking Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Clicking App Center from the fly-out menu.
  3. Installing MS Immersive Reader from the Teaching tools section.

Enabling MS Immersive Reader

Once the MS Immersive Reader app is installed on your site, you can enable it on the course or class level.
  1. Access a course or class.
  2. Click Admin on the course/class navigation menu.
  3. Click More on the fly-out menu.

  1. Select the Enable MS Immersive Reader checkbox.

MS Immersive Reader is then enabled on all page sections and content areas, including assessment instructions. To use MS Immersive Reader:
  1. Users click Immersive Reader above page content.

Immersive reader options

The MS Immersive Reader has multiple settings icons in the upper right of the screen:

  1. Text preferences: The Text preferences icon allows users to change text size, spacing, fonts and color themes.
  2. Grammar options: The Grammar options icon allows users to break words into syllables, and to color code parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
  3. Reading preferences: The Reading preferences icon allows users to enable line focus, a picture dictionary, and translate text to another language.

To listen to an audio track for the page content:
  1. Users click the Play button.

To modify the voice speed and/or gender:
  1. Users click the Voice settings icon.

To return to the content page:
  1. Users click the Exit arrow.
