Our integration with Safe Exam Browser (SEB) allows you to create a web browser environment to carry out online assessments safely. SEB turns any computer temporarily into a secure workstation. It controls access to resources like system functions, other websites, and applications and prevents unauthorized resources from being used during an exam.
To enable the SEB for your learning portal go to Admin/App Center and install the Safe Exam Browser App.
Please note that by installing the SEB app, the Proctoring app will be automatically installed, and if you uninstall the Proctoring app, the SEB integration will be automatically uninstalled.
After installing the app, the Proctor tab of quizzes will display the Safe Exam Browser section. To enable it for the assessment click the "Require Safe Exam Browser to complete the assessment?" checkbox.
When enabled, it provides options for adding passwords or uploading a custom SEB configuration file. Please note that we recommend the "Adding passwords" option, this way the SEB configuration file will be generated automatically. Uploading the configuration file is not recommended until you are a SEB expert.
If you click "Add Passwords", it prompts you to enter the learner, instructor, and quit passwords.
After saving the passwords, you can edit them by clicking the "Change passwords" button.
A few things to note:
The "teacher password" is similar to the "administrator password" from the SEB configuration panel. This password is required to open a config file for editing in the config tool. You should set an administrator password if you don't want someone to open and examine a .seb configuration file after knowing the encryption credentials (for example, after an exam). Please note that this password can be used only in the SEB configuration panel.
The "student password" is used to access and start the exam while accessing it with SEB.
The "quit password" is the one used to leave SEB. The user can click on the quit icon from the right-bottom page of the SEB platform and enter this password.
Once SEB is configured for the quiz, learners can go to the assessment and then click the "Take quiz using Safe Exam Browser" button. After clicking the button, the SEB configuration file will be automatically downloaded.
Learners can click the downloaded SEB configuration file to launch the Safe Exam Browser. Please note that learners need to have the SEB application installed on their device in order to launch the SEB package and take the quiz. The application can be installed from https://safeexambrowser.org/download_en.html.
When opened, it will prompt learners to enter the learner password for the assessment.
If learners enter the password correctly, they are taken directly to the assessment and they cannot click any other areas of the screen (all the links are deactivated).
Once they have completed the assessment, they can click the "Exit" button to leave SEB.
Learners can also close the SEB browser and then enter the quit password. Please note that it's up to you if you want to share this password with learners or not.
