Seating chart

Overview

The seatings charts feature allows teachers to organize how students are seated in a class.

Please note that the business platform uses the term 'learner', and the academia platform uses the term 'student'. The term 'learner' and 'student' are interchangeable in this article. 

Installing the Seating charts app

Before you can use the seating chart feature, it must be installed on your platform by an administrator. To install the Seating charts app, administrators:
  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu
  2. Click App center from the fly-out menu.
  3. Install the Seating chart app from the Teaching tools section.

Adding seating charts

To add a seating chart to a course or class, you must first enable the feature. To enable seating charts for a class:

  1. Access the course or class.
  2. Click Admin from the course navigation menu.
  3. Click Features from the fly-out menu.
  4. Select the Seating chart checkbox.

To begin setting up the seating chart:

  1. Click Seating chart from the course navigation menu.
  2. The Seating chart will initially be empty. Click Edit to begin creating your seating chart.

  1. Drag and drop Furniture shapes from the right panel onto the grid to create the layout of your classroom.
  2. Drag Students to their assigned seating location around the furniture. Grid lines are shown to help designate seat locations.

While you are creating your seating chart, there are a few additional options that can assist you:

  1. Hover over a Student or Furniture shape to gain access to the delete button. Click the delete Delete icon icon to remove the learner or furniture shape.
  2. If you want to clear the seating chart and start over, click Cancel.
  3. If you would like to save your seating chart, click Save.

Once the seating chart is saved, you can quickly view students' scores and grades. To see a student's score and grade:

  1. Hover over the Student's tile. The score and grade will appear in a small pop-up window.

Once you have completed your seating chart, you have several additional options:

  1. Click Show to students to make the seating chart visible to students.
  2. Click Clear to restart with an empty chat.
  3. Click Edit to edit the existing seating chart.

If you are showing the seating chart to students and would like to hide it:

  1. Click Hide from students.
