Web conferencing: GoTo Meeting

Overview

The CYPHER Learning platform allows you to integrate with many popular third-party web conferencing systems to schedule meetings directly in the platform.  To learn more about which web conferencing tools are supported, visit the Web conferencing article.

This article will help you set up an integration with GoTo Meeting to schedule meetings using the calendar, by adding a Web conferencing section to a module, and through the HTML editor. 

Setting up a GoTo Meeting integration

To integrate GoTo Meeting with you platform, first, you must install the GoTo Meeting app from the App center. To install the app, administrators:
  1. Hover over Admin on the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click App center from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click Install on the GoTo Meeting tile in the Web conferencing section.

To begin configuring the GoTo Meeting integration:
  1. Hover over Admin on the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click GoTo Meeting from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click Configure.

The GoTo Meeting configuration settings display. To configure your platform as a client with GoTo Meeting, you will need the Redirect URL provided on this page.
  1. Copy the Redirect URL and save it for use when creating the GoTo Meeting client.

Creating a new client in GoToMeeting

In order to integrate GoTo Meeting with your platform, you must set up a new client with GoTo Meeting. To set up a client with GoTo Meeting:
  1. First, you must sign in to your GoTo developer account.
    1. If you do not already have a GoTo developer account, register for an account.
  2. Once you are signed in to your account, click OAuth Clients.

  1. Click Create a new client.

Enter Client details:
  1. Enter the Name of the client (something you will easily recognize).
  2. Enter a Description (optional).
  3. Enter the Redirect URL you copied from the GoTo Meeting > Settings page on your learning portal.
  4. Click Next.

The next section allows you to select the scopes the client will need to request.
  1. Enable the available scopes.
  2. Click Next.

The next screen displays the Client ID and Secret needed for the integration.
  1. Copy the Client ID.
  2. Copy the Secret.
  3. Save the credentials and select the I've copied and stored this token checkbox
  4. Click Done.

Now, return to the GoTo Meeting > Settings tab in your learning platform.
  1. Enter the Client ID value from GoTo Meeting in the Consumer Key field.
  2. Enter the Secret value from GoTo Meeting in the Consumer Secret field.
  3. Click Save.

Adding meetings using GoTo Meeting

The first time you create a meeting with GoTo Meeting, you will be asked to log in. To create meetings, you need a regular, paid GoTo Meeting account. Before you create your first meeting, make sure you have logged out of your developer account.

To test your integration and add a meeting, add a calendar event:
  1. Click full calendar on the Calendar widget in the right panel.
  2. Hover over a date and click the Add event  icon.
  3. Add a Name for the event on the Summary tab, and add an optional Description.
  4. Click the Web conferencing tab.
  5. Select the GoTo Meeting radio button.
  6. Click Save.

The first time you set up a web conferencing event, a pop-up window will display from GoTo Meeting. 
  1. Log in with your regular, paid GoTo Meeting account.
After you log in to your GoToMeeting account, you will be able to add events associated with GoTo Meeting for the next year without having to enter your credentials again.

Once the event is created, users can easily join the web conferencing meeting. Users simply:
  1. Click the event on the calendar.
  2. Click Join meeting.
  3. They can also join via telephone using the number and access code provided.

Troubleshooting

Wrong credentials

If you logged in with the wrong credentials or with the developer account when creating your first event, you can flush your credentials to log in again. To reset your log-in credentials:
  1. Hover over Admin on the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click GoTo Meeting from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. Click Flush OAuth tokens.
Please note that if you reset the OAuth tokens, you will need to create a new event and log-in with the correct credentials.
