Activity display

Overview

The Activity display feature allows you to see the level of activity in courses and classes, modules and lessons, and groups.

There is also an Activity widget which displays activity details.

CYPHER for business defaults to the term courses. CYHPER for academia defaults to the term classes. The terms are interchangeable in this article.

Please note the activity display app can be installed, configured of uninstalled by an administrator.

Activity indicators on dashboard tiles

If enabled, activity indicators appear on course and group tiles.
  1. The indicators appear in the upper-right of various tiles.
  2. The size and pulse frequency indicate the amount of activity in that area.
    1. The indicators grow in size and flashes faster when there's more activity, and disappear if there is no activity.

Hover over the indicator to display a tooltip, which will inform you if there is low, medium or high activity.

By default, module or lesson tiles also have activity indicators.

Activity widget

If enabled, each course, module and group has an activity widget at the top of the right bar.
The widget updates every second with the latest user activity in that area.

Administrators: Installing and configuring the Activity display app

If activity display is not available on your platform, administrators can install it from the app center:
  1. Click Admin from the main navigation menu.
  2. Click App center.
  3. Install Activity display from the Monitoring section.
    1. Activity display can also be uninstalled from the App center by selecting Uninstall.


Administrators can configure which tiles display the activity indicators.
  1. Click Admin from the main navigation menu.
  2. Click App center.
  3. Click the configuration cog icon on the Activity display tile.
  4. Select which tiles will display the activity indicator for dashboard tiles, courses and groups.

Administrators: Configuring Activity widgets

You can customize the activity widget for each course/class or group:

  1. Access the course/class or group.
  2. Click the Edit widgets icon.
  3. Click Teacher right panel.
  4. Adjust the position of the Activity widget, or remove it.

Administrators: Configuring module or lesson activity display

You can enable/disable module or lesson activity indicators from the learner view:
  1. Access the course or class.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. Click Modules or Lessons.
  4. Select or deselect Show activity indicator on module tiles to learners.
