Overview
The platform is continually being improved to enhance accessibility, ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities, can access and enjoy using it.
If you have feedback on the current accessibility of the platform, please report it with a ticket to the
Support team.
Note - if you do not have access to open a ticket, please report the issue to an instructor, teacher, or administrator who can open a ticket for you.
Supported screen reader and browser combinations
The code is tested using the following screen reader and browser combinations.
Navigation with a screen reader
ARIA landmark regions
Landmark regions such as navigation, search, main, complementary, and content info are used throughout the platform to make navigation via regions easier.
Skip to content
A ‘Skip to Content’ link is provided at the start of each page, which will skip the user to the main content area when selected.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Press Escape when inside an expanded navigation area or dialog window to close the expanded area and return to the link that opened it.
- When inside a form, press Tab or Shift + Tab to navigate forward or backward between form controls.
- To access the HTML editor menu bar with a keyboard:
- Windows users:
- Tab to the Message section. Use Alt + F9 to focus on the menu bar.
- Navigate with the arrow keys, and open menus with the Enter or Return key.
- Use the Tab key to move between menu lines.
- Use the Esc to close the editor.
- Mac users:
- Tab to the Message section. Use Option + F9, or Option + fn + F9 to focus on the menu bar.
- Navigate with the arrow keys, and open menus with the Return key.
- Use the Tab key to move between menu lines.
- Use the Esc key to close the editor.
High contrast theme
The platform provides a high contrast theme that follows WCAG 2.2 contrast requirements for improved usability. Administrators can enable the high contrast setting by:
- Clicking Admin from the primary navigation menu.
- Clicking Portal from the fly-out menu.
- Clicking the Accessibility tab.
- Use the accessible carousel on the visitor portal - adds play and pause options: This setting adds play and pause buttons to the portal carousel.
- Use high contrast theme: This setting enables a high contrast theme, which adds additional contrast to many elements such as links, checkboxes, and buttons.
Accessibility within specific features
The following areas within the platform have been specifically improved for accessibility.
Alt text in the HTML editor
When adding an image, users can add alt text to each image.
- In the HTML editor, click the
Upload image icon.
- Select an image to upload.
- Add alt text to the Image description field.
- Click Save.

Calendar
The Calendar supports Agenda view, which displays all events in a list format. To access the agenda view:
- Click full calendar on the Calendar widget.
- Click Agenda.
