Overview
A canned message is a reusable, prewritten message designed to streamline communication and ensure consistency. Canned messages are sent to users based on a variety of event triggers, such as completing a course, enrolling in a course, or being deactivated from a course.
You can add canned message responses to a variety of event triggers using rules. To learn more, visit the

Editing canned messages
As an administrator, you can customize the content of canned messages. To edit canned messages:
- Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
- Click Messages from the fly-out menu.
The list of canned messages available on the platform displays. To edit a canned message:
- Click the name of the canned message.
The canned message page displays, with the current Subject and Content of the message. Note that variables are used in the message, which are replaced with the variable value. In the example below, @site_name will be replaced by the name of the site, @site_name_with_url will be replaced by the URL of the site, and @account_type will be replaced by the user's specific account type/role (administrator, instructor, learner) as defined in the invitation.
Please note that variables with links (URLs) are not supported in the subject of messages. They are only supported in the body of messages.
To edit the message:
- Click Edit.

The Subject and Message are now editable.
- Update the Subject and Message to fit your business or school.
- Each canned message has specific variables associated with it that can be inserted into the canned message using the "@" syntax. The variables available for the canned message are listed below the canned message name.
- Click Save.
Keep in mind that the updated subject and message will be used for all rules that utilize the canned message.

If you customize a canned message, but want to reset it back to the original canned message:
- Click the name of the canned message.
- Click Reset.
