Overview

The online presence feature allows you to see when others are online. To enable the feature, go to Admin/App center and install "Online presence".

A list of people who are online is displayed in the right bar in the "Online" widget. 

Please note that for users that teach more than 40 courses, the online widget will not display all learners.

Note that the administrator can edit and rearrange the main right bar by clicking the "Edit widgets" button on the admin dashboard. To learn more please visit the Widgets topic.

To hide the online widget from the right bar, click the hide option. If you hide the widget, you can restore it later from your profile Settings area.

You can hover over a person to see more information, as well as click the "Message" option to send them a message and the "Chat" option to start an online chat with them.

Who you see online is based on what kind of account you have:

Instructors/Administrators

Instructors/Administrators can see their friends, their learners, and other instructors.

Learners

Learners can see their friends and their instructors.

Administrators can disable the online presence feature for learners in the Admin/Policies/Learners area under Online.

Instructors can set whether they see their learners online and whether they appear online to their learners by visiting their profile, clicking Privacy, then enable/disable the "See online learners" and "Appear to online learners", respectively.
