Best practices for administrators

Here are some best practices that we recommend for administrators.

Choose a short URL

We recommend that you keep your URL short, ideally less than 10 characters long. For example, if your company is called "The Academy of Digital Photography", an URL like 'ADP' would be ideal because 'http://adp.matrixlms.com' is easy to remember and quick to type. Conversely, 'http://academyofdigitalphotography.matrixlms.com' is poor because it's hard to remember and tedious to type. To change your URL, click Admin/Portal and then click "Edit MATRIX URL" in the URL section.

Jazz up your company portal

When you first register your company, your company portal has default slides and links. We recommend that you add pictures to your portal or custom HTML that best represents your company, as well as a company logo and custom links. To set up these options visit the Admin/Portal section.

Add news items regularly

We recommend adding company news items frequently. That way instructors, administrators, students can all get a sense of the latest news at your company, and even subscribe via RSS if they like.

Take advantage of mobile support

If you access the site via the web browser on an mobile device, the site is rendered specially for mobile devices. This makes it easy to access all of the features of the site on the go.

Create course templates for all your courses

The course template feature is very powerful because it allows you to create a version of a course that can be used as a cookie-cutter for making copies of the course. It's easy to create course templates and put them into your company library for reuse by instructors. In addition, copies of the course template can be selected as "child courses" of the template, and then easily synchronized with the template if it changes.
