Overview
The Scores grid and Gradebook are a convenient way to see the scores of all the learners in your course. The Scores grid also provides access to statistics such as the number of excused and past due assessments, the minimum, maximum, and average scores, and a graph of the results.
Please note that the business platform defaults to the term Scores grid, and the academia platform defaults to the term Gradebook. The terms "Scores grid" and "Gradebook" are interchangeable in this article.
To see the scores and grades for a course or class:
- Access a course or class.
- Click Scores from the course navigation menu.
- Academia users will click Gradebook from the class navigation menu.
Instructors and teachers can also quickly access the scores of a course from the Dashboard:
- Locate the Courses/Classes widget.
- Click the Scores grid/Gradebook
icon on the course tile.
The Scores grid displays.
- For academia users, the Gradebook displays.
Please note that if you have Adblocker installed, the table view may be affected.
Using the Scores grid and Gradebook
The Scores grid is set up with each assessment or assignment listed across the horizontal access, and learners listed on the vertical access.
Please note the business platform defaults to the term assessment, and the academia platform defaults to the term assignment. The terms "assessment" and "assignment" are interchangeable in this article.
The assessment name is a clickable link that will allow you to directly access the assessment. The column below the assessment name is the due date, followed by the score release setting (either Instant or Manual). To release the scores for courses with Manual score release:
- Click the score release
icon.

The Confirm pop appears:
- Click Ok to release scores/grades.
To enter scores directly into the Scores grid/Gradebook:
- Click directly on a table cell.
- Enter a score, a percentage (a number followed by %), or a letter score.
You can navigate through scores using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
To deselect a cell without saving its current value press the Escape key.
You can also enter an exception for any assessment. To enter an exception using the keyboard:
- Type X for excused.
- Type M for missing.
- Type AB for absent.
- Type I for incomplete.
- An incomplete counts as a 0 towards the final score, and indicates that a learner submitted incomplete work that is not worthy of a score, but might be awarded a score if they complete the submission.
To enter an exception using the mouse:
- Hover over a table cell.
- Click the Mark with an exception
flag.
Then select the exception from the drop-down:
for excused.
for missing.
for absent.
for incomplete.
To clear an exception:
- Click the exception icon.
- Select Clear from the drop-down.

To add a comment to a score:
- Double click on a table cell.
- Enter a comment.
- Click Post.
You can post multiple comments to each cell. After the comment is posted:
- Click the Edit icon to edit the comment.
- Click the Delete icon to delete the comment.
Score grid cells that have comments are indicated with the
icon.
You can also add a fill score that will apply to all learners' scores for the assessment. To add a fill score:
- Click on the more
icon on the table cell that indicates the total points possible for the assessment.
- Select Fill from the drop-down.
The Fill pop-up displays.
- Enter the fill score.
- Click Save.

To undo changes made to the scores:
- Click the undo
icon.
To view the Scores grid/Gradebook in full-screen mode:
- Click the full window
icon.
To exit full-screen mode:
- Click the regular window
icon.
To access a learner's submission directly from the Scores grid:
- Hover over the student's score in the table.
- Click the Submission
icon.
If an assessment has an associated rubric, you can score using the rubric directly from the Scores grid. To score using a rubric from the Scores grid:
- Hover over the table cell.
- Click the rubric
icon.

The Rubric displays.
- Grade the submission using the rubric.
- Click Save.
Configuring the Scores grid/Gradebook
To configure the settings for the Scores grid/Gradebook:
- Click Scores from the course navigation menu.
- Academia users will click Gradebook from the class navigation menu.
- Click the
Configure icon.

The Configure pop-up displays. The Configure pop-up allows you to customize the Scores grid in a variety of ways including:
- Setting a score or percent format as the large value in the cell.
- Displaying a small value in the cell, and if displayed, setting the format of the value.
- Setting a score, average points, or weighted score format as the left value and the right value in the Overall summary column.
- Displaying categories, due dates, exception codes, and submissions icons.
- Enabling Full window mode, condensed mode, and more.
If you are using a grading scale, you can enable a grade drop-down. To enable the setting:
- Select the Enable score map dropdown checkbox.
- Academia users will select the Enable grade map dropdown checkbox.

You can also configure how learner names display and column width settings:
- Show learner ID under name: Select the checkbox to display learner IDs under each learner's name.
- Column width in px: This setting allows you to adjust the width of all columns in the table.
- Learner column width in px: This setting allows you to adjust the width of the learner column, which is helpful if you have learners with longer names.
Exporting scores
The Scores grid/Gradebook allows you export scores as XLS or CSV files. To export scores:
- Click Scores from the course navigation menu.
- Academia users will click Gradebook from the class navigation menu.
- Click the export
icon.
- Select an export format.

If you choose to export a CSV file, you can customize which fields to include in the exported file.
- Select the specific fields to include in the CSV file.
- Select a format.
- The default format is UTF-8.
- Click Export.
Importing scores
The Scores grid/Gradebook allows you import scores for an assessment. To import scores:
- Click Scores from the course navigation menu.
- Academia users will click Gradebook from the class navigation menu.
- Click on the more
icon on the table cell that indicates the total points possible for the assessment.
- Select Import from the drop-down.
The Import for <Course Name> pop-up displays.
- Select the format of the import file.
- Click in the File field to browse for the file.
- Select the file and click Open.
- Click Save.
The imported scores will be displayed in the Assessment column.
Overriding the final score or grade
The platform allows you to manually override a learner's final score or grade. First, you must enable the feature:
- Click Admin from the course/class navigation menu.
- Click Assessments from the fly-out menu.
- Select the Allow final grade to be overridden? checkbox.

To override the final score or grade:
- Click the Overall score table cell and enter an override percentage.
- Note that you can only override the final score using a cell that displays a percentage. Use the Scores grid configuration settings to format the left and/or right value in the Overall summary columns to display a percentage if needed.
The overridden score is indicated by a highlight in the score grid.
Note that the overridden value applies in all places that display a final score, including learner transcripts and the learner's view of the assessment scores.
You can add an optional comment to the new score. To add a comment:
- Double-click the overall score percentage.
- Enter a comment.
- Click Save.
Ordering
The order of learners and assessments can be easily adjusted in the Scores grid/Gradebook.
To reorder learners:
- Click the Learners by last name drop-down menu.
- Select an option from the drop-down menu:
- Learners by first name: Orders learners alphabetically by first name.
- Learners by last name: Orders learners alphabetically by last name.
- Order by ID: Orders learners numerically by ID number.
- Learners by grade: Orders learners by grade (highest grade first).

To reorder assessments:
- Click the Assessments by descending due drop-down menu.
- Select an option from the drop-down menu:
- Assessments by name: Orders assessments alphabetically by first name.
- Assessments by descending due: Orders assessments by due date with the latest date listed first.
- Assessments by ascending due: Orders assessments by due date with the earliest date listed first.
- Assessments by category: Orders assessments by grouping them alphabetically by category.
- Categories include Homework, Participation, Quiz, and Test.
- Assessments by module (not pictured): If assessments are associated with modules, this option orders assessments by grouping them alphabetically by module.

To filter the Scores grid by assessment category:
- Click the All categories due drop-down menu.
- Select a category.
- Only assessments in the selected category will display.
To filter the Scores grid by modules:
- Click the All modules due drop-down menu.
- This filter only displays if your course has assessments associated with modules.
- Select a module.
- Only assessments in the selected module will display.
Analytics
For an overview of the results of all assessments for the course:
- Click Scores from the course navigation menu.
- Academia users click Gradebook from the class navigation menu
- Click the Analytics
icon.
The Analytics pop-up displays.
- The top chart displays the grade distribution per assessment.
- The second chart displays the grade distribution for all assessments.

To see analytics for an individual assessment:
- Click on the more
icon on the table cell that indicates the total points possible for the assessment. - Select Analytics from the menu.
A pop-up displays with a chart of the score distribution for the individual assessment.
To see analytics for an individual learner:
- Click the more
icon next to the learner's name.
- Select Analytics from the menu.
A pop-up displays a chart with the score distribution for the individual learner.
To view a score grade report for a learner:
- Click the more
icon next to the learner's name.
- Select Score report from the menu.
- Academia users will select Grade report from the menu.
The learner's score report will display.
- Click the print
icon for a printable version of the score report.
