Overview
A question bank is a set of questions that can be used by quizzes. Question banks can be stored as a resource and used by multiple quizzes in separate courses..
To view the question banks stored in your resource libraries:
- Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
- Click Catalog from the fly-out menu.
- Select Question bank as the Resource type in the Search widget in the right panel.
The question banks stored in your Resource libraries will display.
- Click on a question bank to view individual questions.
The Question bank pop-up will display.
- Click Details on the pop-up.
All questions in the question bank will display.
Adding question banks
To add a new question bank:
- Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
- Click Add from the fly-out menu.
- Click Question bank.
The Add question bank pop-up displays.
- Name the question bank.
- Add a description for the question bank.
- Select a library for the question bank.
The new, blank, question bank appears. To add questions:
- Click + Add questions.
The Add questions pop-up displays. Select from the following types of questions:
- True or false
- Multiple choice (one answer)
- Multiple choice (many answers)
- Fill in the blanks
- Freeform
- Matching
- Hotspot
- Arithmetic

After selecting a question type, enter the question details. Question details will vary by question type.
- After configuring the question, select a save option:
- Save and return to question bank: This option will save the question and you will return to the main question bank page.
- Save and add another of the same type: This option will save the question and open a new question details page of the same question type. For example, if you are saving a True or false question, a new True or false question details page will open.
- Save and add another: This option will save the question and open the Add questions pop-up so you can select another question type.
When you have added questions to a question bank, multiple options become available on the main question bank page:
- Click Edit to edit the question bank.
- Select a question and click Delete to remove a question from the question bank.
- Click the reorder
icon and use drag and drop to reorder questions.
- Click + Add questions to add additional questions.
- Click Print to open a new page which includes all questions in the question bank. This page can be printed.
- Click Answer key to open a new page that includes all questions and answers in the question bank. This page can be printed.
- Click Export QTI to export questions to the QTI format.

Importing question banks
The platform also supports the importing of questions that are in QTI format. QTI is standard that defines a common data format for creating, packaging, and exchanging digital assessment content.
The following custom QTIs are supported:
- ExamView - standard
- WebCT CE 4-6/Vista (this format is also exported by ExamView)
- Blackboard 6-7
- Blackboard 7-9
- Angel - standard
Additionally, there are tools that can convert .pdf and .doc quiz files to QTI or other formats to save you time and effort:
- GetMarked: GetMarked allows you to import .pdf and .doc quiz files into different LMS software. Visit their website for more information at https://digitaliser.getmarked.ai/.
- GIFT2QTI: GIFT2QTI allows you to import your GIFT formatted quiz into the site and convert it to QTI 1.2. Visit their website for more information at https://www.tsugi.org/tsugi/store/details/gift.
Once your questions are in QTI format, you can import them to a question bank:
- Access a question bank.
- Click Add questions.
- Click the Import tab.
- Click Import QTI.
The Upload file pop-up displays.
- Use drag and drop or click to browse for the QTI files on your computer.
- Click Save.
When the QTI file has completed the import, you will receive a notification.
- Click the link in the notification to view the imported questions in the question bank.
