Resources

Overview

You can upload and display many kinds of resources on the platform, including images, video, audio, HTML, PDF, word files, and links to web resources.

There are many places you can upload and share resources.
  1. Course resources: An area for instructors to share resources with the learners.
  2. Group resources: An area where members can share resources with other members,
  3. Business resources: You can share resources at a business level that can be accessed by the members of all the organizations within the business.

Note that in case you have partitioned organizations, super admins can allow instructors to add resources to the site-level resources library (Business library). To enable this option, admins must access Organizations and visit the Options tab.

Adding resources to a course or group

To upload a resource to a course, class, or group:

  1. Access the course or group that will house the resource.
  2. Click Resources from the secondary navigation menu.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click the kind of resource you want to add.
  5. Complete the fields.
  6. Click Save.

The resource will appear in the list of resources for the course or group. To manage resources:
  1. Click the Move icon icon and drag and drop the resource to reorder the list.
  2. Select a resource and click Remove to remove a resource.
  3. Select a resource and click Export to export a resource. You can select multiple resources to export as a .zip file.
    1. Files that can be exported and downloaded are File, Page, Folder, and Web Resource. Resources like Equella, Google Docs, Tool, Panopto will be ignored.
    2. Note that a Web resource export is a text file with a single URL.

Note that administrators can edit any resource they have administrator permissions for. For example, an administrator in the default organization can edit all resources of all users on their site. An administrator in a non-default organization (where organizations are partitioned) can edit the resources of all users in that organization.

Allow learners to upload resources

Administrators also have the option to allow learners to post resources to a course and edit them.

To allow learners to post resources to a course, administrators:
  1. Access the course.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. Click More.
  4. Select Allow learners to edit the resources area.
    1. Please be aware that allowing learners to edit resources also allows them to delete resources.

Sharing resources

Instructors, teachers, and admins can also upload resources to share at an organizational or business level. To add and share resources: 

  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click + Add from the fly-out menu.
  3. Select the type of resource you want to upload.
    1. Note - Individual resource types are covered in more detail later in this article.

  1. Select the resource to upload.
  2. Enter the name and description of the resource.
  3. Select the Library for the resource. 
    1. Click Organization to make the resource available to users within your organization.
    2. Click Business to make the resource available to users in all of the organizations in your business.
  4. Select Allow learners to access? if you want to make the resource available to learners and students.
    1. Note that uploaded resources must also be made available to learners by an administrator at a site level. 
  5. Click Save.

Managing Resources

Administrators from the default organization have the permission to add, remove, or export business resources. To manage resources, administrators:
  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click Business from the fly-out menu.
  3. To reorder resources, click the  icon and drag and drop the resource.
  4. To remove a resource, select a resource and click Remove.
  5. To export a resource (or multiple resources) select the resource(s) and click Export.

Administrators have the ability to make uploaded business resources available to learners. To allow learners to access resources, administrators:
  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click Policies from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click the Learners tab.
  4. Select the Resources Tab checkbox.

Types of resources

The resource library allows you to upload, store, and share many different kinds of resources. You can upload the following resource types:

  1. Badge: A badge is a kind of award that is usually given as a gift or incentive for learners to encourage great results. To learn how to add badges, visit the Badges article.
  2. Certificates: A certificate indicates one or more skills and can be awarded to learners. To learn how to add certificates, visit the Certificates article.
  3. Content templates: Content templates are HTML fragments that can be reused in the HTML editor. To learn more, visit the Editor article.
  4. Course template: A course template is a course without learners or enrollment. To learn how to add course templates, visit the Course templates article.
  5. Equella: Add resources from an Equella repository. Visit the Equella help topic for more details.
  6. File: Upload a file from your computer, such as a document, presentation, or video. Learn more in the next section.
  7. Grading scales: Grading scales are used to map scores to grades, points, and more. To learn more, visit the Grading scales article.
  8. Google doc: Google docs are documents that can be embedded from Google Drive. More details coming soon!
  9. H5P (LTI 1.3) resource: H5P (LTI 1.3) resources are HTML5 content and applications created using a H5P tool and imported using LTI 1.3. To learn more, visit the H5P article. 
  10. H5P resource: H5P resources are HTML5 content and applications created using a H5P tool. To learn more, visit the H5P article. 
  11. HTML package: HTML packages are HTML files you have already created and want to upload directly as a resource. Learn more in the next section.
  12. Page: Pages are plain text or HTML pages that can be created with the editor, saved as a resource, and shared. Learn more in the next section.
  13. Question bank: A question bank is a set of questions that can be reused by quizzes. To learn how to add question banks, visit the Question banks topic.
  14. Rubric: A rubric is a scoring tool that lists the criteria for rating a piece of work. To learn how to add rubrics, visit the Rubrics topic.
  15. SCORM package: SCORM packages can be uploaded to be used as resource in courses and class. The platform supports industry-standard SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 packages. To learn more, visit the SCORM article.
  16. Skills: Skills are a set of abilities and competencies that learners can achieve. To learn how to add skills, visit the Skills article.
  17. Survey question bank: A survey question bank is a set of questions that can be reused by surveys. To learn more, visit the Survey article. 
  18. Tool: Add an LTI-compliant tool. To learn more, visit the LTI: adding tools to a course article.

Adding specific resource types

The following resource types are covered in more detail below:
  1. File

  5. Web resources

File

File resources include documents, images, videos, and more.

To add a file resource:
  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click + Add.
  3. Click File
  4. Select the file from your computer.
    1. Note - If you have Google Drive, OneDrive, or other file system integrations, they will display as available tabs.

Please note that the max individual file size that can be uploaded is 2GB for all plans.

 After uploading your file:

  1. Enter the name and description of the resource.
  2. Select the Library for the resource. 
  3. Click Save.

The overview page for the uploaded resource will display.

HTML Packages

To add HTML packages, administrators must first install the HTML packages app. To install the HTML packages app, administrators:

  1. Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click App center from the fly-out menu.
  3. Install HTML packages from the Content section.

To add a HTML package:
  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click + Add.
  3. Click HTML package
  4. Select the file from your computer.
    1. Note - Upload the package as a .zip file.
  5. Enter the name and description of the resource.
  6. Select the Library for the resource.
  7. Click Save.

Pages

To add a page resource:

  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click + Add.
  3. Click Page.

  1. Enter a name for the page.
  2. Select a library for the page resource.
  3. Use the HTML editor to create the content for the page.
  4. Click Save.

After the content page is saved, the page overview displays. The page resource can be used in courses or classes, and can be accessed by other users in your organization and business based on the library you selected when creating the page.
  1. Click Edit to edit the page.
  2. Click Delete to delete the page.

SCORM

To add a SCORM package:

  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click + Add.
  3. Click SCORM package.
After uploading a SCORM file:

  1. Enter a name and description for the file.
  2. Select a library for the SCORM package.
  3. Click Save.

The SCORM package will be uploaded, and you will receive a notification when the upload is complete.

  1. Click on the link in the message to see the overview page of the SCORM package.

SCORM packages can be used as sections or resources in a course. For more details, visit the Modules article.

Web resources

To add a Web resource:

  1. Click Resources from the primary navigation menu.
  2. Click + Add.
  3. Click Web resource.

  1. Enter the web resource URL.
  2. Enter a name and description.
  3. Select a library for the resource.
  4. Click Save.

After saving the web resource, the overview page displays.

  1. Note that video link web resources (such as youtube, Vimeo, etc.) are auto embedded as videos.  
  2. If you do not want the video to be auto-embedded, you can edit the display properties. To learn more about embedded videos, visit the Video article.

Tagging resources

Administrators can add tags to any resource. Instructors and teachers can add tags to any resource they have uploaded. To add a tag to a resource:
  1. Click Resources on the main navigation menu.
  2. Click Catalog from the fly-out menu.
  3. Click a resource.
  4. Click Details.
  5. On the resource page, locate the Metadata widget in the right panel.
  6. Click the + icon in the Tags section.
  7. Type a tag name into the text box.
  8. Use a comma to create additional tags.
  9. Click Save when you are finished adding tags.

Folders

To organize resources, you can create folders. Once you have created the folder, you can add files directly to the folder.

To add a folder:
  1. Click Resources from the main navigation menu.
  2. Click Locker for personal resources or Business to see resources shared with the business.
  3. Click + Add.
  4. Click Folder.
  5. Type a folder name.
  6. Click Save.
