Calendar

Overview

Robust calendar functionality exists in several places on the platform:

  1. The primary calendar displays all of your events from multiple sources. 
  2. Courses and classes may include calendars with specific, course/class related events.
  3. Groups may include calendars with events specific to the group.
To access your primary calendar, click the calendar icon on the top navigation bar

By default, your primary calendar shows all events, including:

  1. Course/class events.
  2. Group events.
  3. Business events.
  4. Personal events.
Info
CYPHER for business defaults to the term courses. CYPHER for academia defaults to the term classes. The terms are interchangeable in this article. 
Each event is color-coded on the calendar.

To display the events from a particular calendar:
  1. Select the course or group from the list of Calendars in the lower right panel.
    1. In the example below, only events related to the Team Leadership and Collaboration course display.

To change the color of one of your calendars:
  1. Hover over the Calendar name.
  2. Click the down arrow icon.
  3. Select a new color.

  1. To expand the size of your calendar, click the right arrow icon.
    1. The calendar widgets on the right side of the screen are minimized.
  2. To view your calendars widgets again, click the left arrow icon.

Add an event

To add an event:
  1. Hover over a date on the calendar.
  2. Click the plus icon.


The Add event pop up displays.
  1. Enter the event's Name.
  2. Select the event's Duration.
    1. Uncheck the All day check box to enter specific times.
  3. Choose the type of event from the Calendar drop-down menu.

  1. Click the Description tab to enter the event's description.
  2. If available, Click the Web conferencing tab to add a web conferencing link.
  3. If you would like to add a recurring event, click the Repeat tab and select the Repeat checkbox. 
    1. You can set the repeat frequency and determine when the series ends.
    2. You can also add recurring events that will repeat monthly on a specific day. For example, you can add an event that will repeat on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. To add such an event, check Repeat, then select Monthly and check Every second Wednesday.

If the event is for a business, course or group, you can choose to have the event posted to the corresponding news feed.
To post the event to the news feed:
  1. Click the Miscellaneous tab.
  2. Select the Post to news feed checkbox.

Weekly view

To see a weekly view of the calendar, click Week above the calendar.
To scroll back and forth through the weeks, use the arrows at the top of the calendar.

Agenda view

To see an agenda view of the calendar, click Agenda above the calendar.
To scroll back and forth through the weeks, use the arrows at the top of the calendar.
The agenda view uses blocks to indicate modules/assessments and automatically bundles items into the same block if they occur at the same time.
  1. For example, if a module is scheduled for 12 pm on a particular day, and an assessment within that course is due at the same time, they appear together in the agenda view.

Export

To export a calendar to iCal format, click Share.

Administrator Settings

The Calendar feature is installed by default. If you don't want to use calendars on your learning portal, administrators can uninstall it through the Admin App center.

The Home area can include an Agenda tab.

To enable it:
  1. Click Admin.
  2. Click Portal.
  3. Click the User view tab.
  4. Select Agenda in the Home top tabs section.
    1. The Home/Agenda tab only shows for users who are teaching or enrolled in at least one instructor-led or blended course. It shows all module/assessment events for all the courses that they are in, as well as all group calendar events, and each entry it linked to its associated module/assessment/group. 

You can also set the agenda view as the landing page of a course.
To configure this option:
  1. Select a course.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. Click Basics.
  4. Select Agenda from the Instructor landing pages section.

Daylight Savings Time

If you don't want to adjust repeating events during daylight saving time:

  1. Click Admin.
  2. Click Portal.
  3. Click the More menu.
  4. Check Don’t adjust repeating events +/- an hour during DST in the Calendars section.
Please note that by default, this option is enabled for new customers and NOT enabled for existing customers (for backward compatibility).
Repeating events are automatically adjusted based on DST.
  1. This means that if an event is 5 pm during normal times, it might appear as 4 pm during daylight savings time. If you check this option, a repeating event at 5 pm will always appear as 5 pm regardless of DST.
