News feed

Overview

The news feed aggregates the main contents of your course feeds, group feeds, announcements, events and to-do list.

To see the news feed:
  1. Access the Home tab.
  2. Click News.


When you first open the news feed, the latest items display.
As you scroll down the page, more items automatically display. An arrow will display at the bottom of the feed that you can click to view more posts.

Please note the news feed displays posts up to six months.


Configuring the news feed

The home page news feed can be configured to display various feeds:

  1. Friends: Posts from your friends.
  2. Courses: Assessment notifications, module notifications, calendar events, announcements and instructor posts from your courses.
    1. Note that student posts and course blog entries are not included in the home page feed, but are included in the course's news feed.
  3. Groups: Group announcements and calendar events.
    1. Note that member posts and group blog entries are not included in the home page feed, but are included in the group's news feed.
  4. Business: Business announcements and calendar events.

To configure your feed, click the cog icon.


Select the feeds to be displayed on your news feed, then click Save.


Posting to the feed

At the top of the feed, you will see the following posting options depending on your platform's settings and your account type:

  1. Learner: Post a personal message if enabled.
  2. Instructor: Post a personal message.
  3. Administrator: Post a personal message or business announcement.

To post a personal message:

  1. Click + Post.
  2. Enter your message.
    1. Any URLs that begin with http(s):// in the posting are automatically hyperlinked.
  3. Click Send

Liking a feed item

  1. Click the heart icon to like a news feed post.
  2. If other users have liked a post, you can click on the Likes number to view the users.

Commenting on a feed item

  1. Type into the Comment bar to add a comment to a post.
  2. Click Reply to comment on a reply.
  3. Click Delete to delete your comment.
