Overview
Google Assignments is an add-on application that integrates with Google Workspace for Education to help educators distribute, analyze, and grade student work.
The Google Assignments feature requires schools to be using Google for Education and all instructors and learners to have their email addresses set to their Google email accounts.
Configuring Google Assignments
To install Google Assignments, administrators:
- Click Admin from the primary navigation menu.
- Click App center from the fly out menu.
- Install the Google Assignments app from the Assessment section.
- For business platform users, install the Google Assessments app.
To configure Google Assignments:
- Click the Configure icon on the Google assignments tile in the App center.
The Admin LTI Assessments page displays.
- Click + Add.
The Build Tool pop-up displays.
- Type Google to find Google Assignments in the list.
- Select the Google Assignments radio button.
- Click Submit.
Google Assignments now displays as an LTI Assessment tool.
- Click the Edit icon for Google Assignments.
The Edit pop-up displays.
- Enter the Public Key and Secret from your Google Assignments admin console.
- Click Save.
Adding Google Assignments
To add a Google Assignments assessment to a course:
- Access the course or class.
- Click the Assessments tab.
- For academia users, click the Assignments tab.
- Click + Add.

The Add assessment pop-up displays.
- Click the Integrations tab.
- Click Google Assignments.

- Enter the name of the assessment and configure the details of the assessment based on your school or organization's standards.
- Enter learner instructions using the HTML editor.
- Click Save.
Learner submissions
To submit an answer for a Google Assignment, learners:
- Access the course or class with the assessment.
- Click Assessments from the course navigation menu.
- Academia users will click Assignments from the navigation menu.
- Click the Google Assignment.

The Google Assignment will display on the Instructions page. To open the assessment, learners:
- Click Open assignment.
Learners are redirected to the Google Assignments site, where the assignment details will display. In the example below, learners can attach files or create documents to submit the assessment.
- After learners have added their documents, they click Submit.
After learners submit an answer, it will be indicated on the Instructions page of the assessment.
- Learners can click Open assignment to view the assignment.
Once an instructor has entered a score or grade for the submission, the score will be visible to learners in the Score widget.
Scoring and grading Google Assignment assessments
To score or grade a learner's Google Assignment assessment submission:
- Click Assessments from the course navigation menu.
- Click the Google assessment.
If learners have submitted assignments, they will display on the Assessment page. To access submissions:
- Click the learner's Google Assignment.
You will be redirected to the Google Assignments site.
- Review the learner's submission.
- Enter a Grade for the assignment.
- Click Return.
The score or grade will be returned to the platform and the assessment will be indicated as graded.
