Overview

edX provides high-quality education both in-person and online. By providing thousands of courses in topics ranging from architecture, computer science, language, and medicine, edX believes in the transformative power of education. Our integration with edX provides thousands of courses on a wide variety of topics that you can now access seamlessly via MATRIX.

Enabling edX Integration

To begin, you must install the edX app from the App Center.

From the left navigation bar, click Admin and then App Center.

In the Search field, enter “edX” (or click Third party content from the Categories options).

Find the edX app and click Install.

The edX Catalogs page opens. Under the Catalog provider heading, click Edit.

Enter the Client Id and Client Secret (from edX) in the appropriate fields.

Under the SAML SSO settings heading, populate the EntityId URL and Metadata fields and click Save.

Once the connection is complete, navigate to the SAML SSO settings heading and click Test connection.

When the test is complete, a message displays at the top of the page.

Under the edX Catalog heading, click Sync Now. You will receive a notification when the sync is complete.

Once the catalog sync is complete, click All catalogs in the upper right corner.

To enable the edX catalog, click the checkbox under the Enable? column heading.

Accessing the edX Catalog

Once the edX catalog is enabled, click Catalog from the left navigation bar. edX appears as a tab next to the other available catalogs.

The edX catalog is organized into categories that you can browse just like the local catalog. On each tile is the category name and the number of available courses. To see the courses in a category, click the appropriate tile.

The course tiles display the name and description of the course. To see more information about a course, click the course tile.

The course opens to the About page with a full description of the content. To enroll in the course, click Enroll.

If you are a course admin and want to make changes to the course before anyone enrolls, click the cog icon in the Info box.

The course Admin page opens and you can modify any of the settings as you would in any other MATRIX course.

Learner View

When a learner enrolls in a course, they begin on the course splash page.

To begin the course, click Continue to course.

The course opens on the Instructions screen. To begin, click Start learning.

The edX courses you are enrolled in appear in the Home/Enrolled tab just like any other MATRIX course.
