Copy a course or class

Overview

The platform allows you to copy an existing course to quickly create a new course or course template.

CYPHER for business defaults to the term course. CYPHER for academia defaults to the term class. The terms course and class are interchangeable in this article.

How to copy a course or class

To copy a course or class:
  1. Access an existing course.
  2. Click Admin from the course navigation menu.
  3. Click Copy.

The Copy page displays.
  1. Click Course if you plan to instruct from the new course and enroll learners or students.
  2. Click Course template to create a template that can be reused to create additional courses.

The Copy pop-up displays, which allows you to customize settings for your new course or course template.
  1. Name the new course or course template.
  2. Select the course Style:
    1. Instructor
    2. Blended
    3. Self paced
    4. Micro course
  3. Enter the course Duration (optional).
  4. Select the course Language and Time zone.
  5. Enter a course Location (optional).
  6. Enter a Course code (optional).
  7. Enter a Section code (optional).
  8. Enter the number of course Credits (optional).
  9. Select the Organization for the new course.
    1. This option may or may not display based on your platform setup. 
  10. Select a Grading scale:
    1. Letters grading scale
    2. Standard pass/fail grading scale
    3. Standard regular grading scale

Copy pop-up

Depending on the set-up of your platform, the Copy pop-up also allows you to customize enrollment and synchronization settings:
  1. Open enrollment: Check the Open enrollment checkbox if you would like to enable open enrollment for the new course.
    1. The open enrollment setting defaults to the setting for the current course.
  2. Max active learners: Set the maximum number of active learners allowed for the course, or check Unlimited.
    1. Max active learners defaults to the value for the current course. 
  3. Max seats: Set the maximum number of seats allowed for the course, or check Unlimited.
    1. Max seats defaults to the value for the current course. 
  4. Synchronization: Select Make the copy a child course to allow synchronization if you would like changes to the original course to synchronize with the new course.
  5. Learners: If you are creating a new course (and not a course template), select the Learners you want pre-enrolled in the new course.
    1. You can add learners and students at any point after the course is created as well.
  6. Click Submit.

Note - Enrollment settings can be disabled for copied courses by Administrators. To learn more, visit the Default course settings section of the Admin: Classes and courses article.

Note - If your platform includes Custom fields, you can add them to your new course or course template from the Copy pop-up.

The course copy will be created, and you will receive an automatic notification when the copy is completed.
  1. Click the link in the notification to access the new course.
